Girls from Oz touring Carnarvon

Girls from Oz (g-oz) is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to expand life experiences, create connections, encourage growth in confidence and increase opportunities for girls and young women. g-oz runs programs in Carnarvon, as well as Halls Creek in Western Australia and Lockhart River in Far North Queensland.
g-oz has been involved with the community of Carnarvon since 2012, and during that time, has delivered 18 week-long Performing Arts intensives to the children at Carnarvon Community College. Team members visit Carnarvonfour times a year to run performing arts workshops and have made strong connections within the Carnarvon community and with the teachers and students at the College.

Last year g-oz was invited by the Westpac Foundation to be one of their feature organisations for 2017. The Foundation also asked the talented g-oz participants from Carnarvon Community College to record a song. The girls’ rendition of ‘Beautiful Dreamer’ was played on Westpac hold music around the country and the film clip made about the girls’ recording was also featured on the Foundation website.

g-oz believes performing arts programs have the ability to simultaneously improve school attendance and educational engagement, foster physical health, promote social and emotional well-being, develop life skills and ultimately enhance the future life prospects of participants.
